Several years ago, Tol Companies, a successful commercial developer based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, approached Cannon Township, a largely rural community northeast of Grand Rapids, with a proposition to build a new town center. The development, dubbed Town Square, would feature retail, office, multi-family and single-family residential homes.
The land plan that was eventually approved included 85 single-family homes and 41 townhome units in buildings with 4, 5, and 6 two-story units. The layout of the plat is decidedly “new urban” with alley-loaded garages, large front porches, and a grid-oriented street pattern.
Homescape was retained by Tol Companies to develop all of the residential architecture for the project. Many of the plans developed for the project now appear in Homescape’s Porches Collection.

The Town Square site plan shows the mix of single-family and multi-family residential units oriented around a central park. At the front of the development are several retail and office buildings offering services for Town Square residents and neighbors all around the township. |

Homescape designed this four-unit townhome as well as complementary five- and six-unit buildings for Town Square. These plans are now part of Homescape's Connected Homes library. |

The architectural style at Town Square is "updated traditional" with simple forms accented by decorative details such as brackets, porch columns, and window flower boxes. The garage is connected to the house by a vestibule allowing it to be "turned" on the plan to accommodate side or alley-loading sites. |

With a variety of prospective buyer profiles to satisfy, Homescape developed a series of ranch, story-and-a-half, and two-story plans for Town Square. |
